Raw Brocoli Kids?

Nicola had a cracking story for me yesterday. After shopping at Sainsbury's in East Dulwich Nicola stumbled across a slightly bizarre conversation. She overheard an ED Dad addressing his young kids. Jubilant and triumphant from his successful family shop he asked his young kids if they'd like a "treat". "Raw broccoli kids?" asked the dad, to which they replied with unbridled excitement "Yes!, daddy".
This confirms a few things for me about East Dulwich. One, the parents are obviously looking after their kids (by warping their minds into making them think raw brocoli is a treat), and secondly the kids are getting a raw deal. Have they not heard of crisps, midget gems and kinder eggs?

Easter Deli Raids

Above is the the East Dulwich Deli, a feast for the eyes and for the bellies. Fabulousness everywhere. We bought really expensive easter eggs (mainly for the packaging). Word of warning tho, the chap who works behind the counter doesn't like his picture taking. I guess he's just sick of people like us snapping away and promoting his shop on blogs and whatnot. fairy snuff.

Also came across this in the East Dulwich Deli. Stating the obvious, but still quite nice.

Next. The Cheese Block. This place smells like dog, but tastes like a dream. Like most people I have a thing for cheese. It's a bit like crack, you just can't get enough, but if you get into it you end up looking a bit pale and pastey. Anyhoo this shop is brilliant, we bought some soft italian cheese & some parma ham. hmmm.

Finally, with our arms sore from our deli raids we hit the William Rose. Seeing the the length of the queue, we figured this is also what most East Dulwichers do do on their weekend. Lovely meat though. Nice chirpy staff. We'll be back for homemade pies in the future. Yes indeedy.

East Dulwich Warehouse

This is for the folk who have somehow not been given the East Dulwich Warehouse Flyer. My favourite offerings from the Warehouse are the stalls that lets you fill up pots of spices & herbs, the one that has an old school TV set that looks like a daft punk robot helmet and the oyster bar. I did try an oyster but it wasn't the most pleasurable experience, mainly for the fact that I was whiplashed by a stringy bit whilst trying to guzzle it down. Gip for me, but not for all. My Fam munched them down like they were pork pies (they love pork pies).....

Dalston Massive

Yes this has nothing to do with East Dulwich, but I do want to encourage people to venture further a field. Dalston, my former home is brilliant. It's a hub for Turks, Africans and trendy shoreditchers who've been pushed out by the city slickers. It has lots on offer; the Arcola theatre, the jazz bar, Barden's, a host of of the finest kebab shops this side of istanbul (my favourite is Umut 2000), plus there's a new edition to the many bizarre shops that can be found in Dalston; Hot Nuts. Can there really be a big enough demand for so many hot nuts? or is "Hot Nuts" just a front for money laundering or a turkish drug dealing? hmmmm.

Beware East Dulwich men!!! The women want your seed!!!

It's true chaps, East Dulwich females want your sperm. By all accounts they're getting it too. There's bambino's everywhere. You can't leave the house without a pram cutting you up or stumbling across a conversation regarding rearing. It looks like I'm just going to have to face up to the fact, that I may have been lured into a SE22 baby booming bermuda triangle. Once you're in ED, there's no escape from the nipper. Trust.

Crackpot Dry Cleaners

We picked up some dry cleaning t'other day, to find a dog biscuit in each plant pot. Either this was a weird and wonderful way to make the plants grow, or they were there to entice owners of dogs to do their dry cleaning there. I'd like to believe the former, but after speaking to my creative partner, who is practically Alan Tittymarsh he said that it was more than likely to be some sort of hippy East Dulwich style shenanigan and that it really wasn't that important to devote so much time thinking about. I beg to differ.

Dem Hills

I love the hills in East Dulwich. Yes, this may seem like a statement from a rather simple mind, but I do love Hills and I am simple. It's no real surprise that I have a thing for hills, having been brought up in God's own backyard (Yorkshire). I really don't think there's anything like seeing a gang of OAP's chase a bath with a tramp in it, down some marshlike hills. Or is that me?
Anyway, head up the Hills, they're there to climb. Plus you get a cracking view of London from Honour Oak.

Rye tup our Street

I had a week off last week, and it were lovely. One of my highlights was checking out the green loveliness in the area. Above is Peckham Rye. Proper it is. The grass is a bit boggy, but on the whole I can see this being a staple of my daily diet in the summer months. If anyone knows of any festivals that take advantage of ED's green spaces let us know. I imagine there's probably some sort of baby rave or organic food fight coming soon. Sweet!

ANORAK

Check out the new edition of ANORAK magazine. My good friend Cathy & Rob commissioned me to do a spread. A good bet for all those kiddy's kicking around. Keep them out of mischief for a while.

Wind Wreaks Havoc in SE22

Twas a windy Saturday. We lost a window to the wind, and Caleb Samuel our letting agent's sign was shaken to the ground. Gutted. I loved that window. Thankfully no-one was hurt by either.
